The Visual Inference Lab at TU Darmstadt is always looking for excellent, motivated students and postdocs interested in problems at the forefront of computer vision and machine learning. We regularly recruit PhD students through the ELLIS PhD Program, and we occasionally post formal PhD and postdoc openings. Recent and soon-to-be PhD graduates are welcome to apply for postdoc positions via our application form at any time, and exceptional PhD candidates may do so even without a formal opening. Before applying, please read our application guidelines carefully; only applications that follow them will be considered.
Background
Postdocs should have an internationally visible research record in computer vision and/or machine learning, with publications in leading venues.
PhD applicants should hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science, mathematics, or a closely related field, with an outstanding academic record.
We are looking for candidates with strong analytical skills who are curious, creative, and highly motivated. Applicants should have a strong mathematical foundation and hands-on experience implementing and rigorously evaluating computational methods; a background in computer vision and/or machine learning is a plus. Knowledge of German is not required, but strong English skills are.
Environment
The Visual Inference Lab was founded in 2007 and conducts research in several areas of computer vision with an emphasis on applying and developing statistical methods and machine learning approaches. We regularly publish in the premier vision conferences and journals; our work has received several awards, including paper prizes at ICCV and CVPR.
TU Darmstadt is one of the leading technical universities in Germany. Its Computer Science department consistently ranks among the top 5 in Germany. Moreover, TU Darmstadt is one of Europe’s strongest research institutions in the area of artificial intelligence.
Darmstadt is a very livable medium-size city in the Rhein-Main metropolitan area very close to Frankfurt.
